DRY END OF THE PAPER MACHINE
The dry end of the paper machine consists of a series of internally steam heated cylinders that evaporate the water content from the paper web. There are two main dryer section called as pre dryer and post dryer respectively. A size press is placed in between these two sections in which sizing agents or chemicals are sprayed or coated on the paper web depending on the color of finish of the paper grade. The paper web is once again fed into the post dryer that dries the sizing chemical onto the sheet and is passed through a calender in between two rolls which maintain the glossiness of the finished paper.
At the end of the paper machine drying process, the paper has a residual moisture of approximately 2% to 9% depending on the grade of paper. A high specific evaporation rate with minimum energy input, a trouble free transportation of paper web at high speeds, and the assurance of the required paper quality with respect to moisture profiles and flatness is to be ensured.
