Every time a paper or board machine is started after a shutdown or the flowing wet end sheet breaks, it is necessary to rethread the paper sheet from the forming section to the reel of the paper machine. The rope tensioner will work with the carrier ropes to keep them tight but not allow them to stretch as a result of wads passing through the system. The sliding carriages in the tensioner are designed to move using drives to adjust for wads caught in the rope, normal elongation and shrinkage of the ropes as a result of wear, moisture and heat. Consistently running the ropes at high tension will negatively affect the ropes which may result in the ropes failing in the open draws.
